1. Standard Container
Standard containers or general purpose containers are the frequently used containers for all types of general cargo. These are enclosed on all four sides they can be supplied with doors at one or both ends depending on the requirements. 20 feet and 40 feet are the most common container size and both are available in 9.6 feet height which allow loading more cargo.
CIMC Equilink also supplies other types of containers with different sizes such as; 10 feet, 30 feet, 45 feet and more.
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is responsible for the standardization and regulation of the cargo containers and to ensure that containers can be stacked most efficiently one on top of another.
Standard containers are intended for permanent and repeated use and designed specifically to facilitate transportation of goods.
2. Special Containers
Special containers are different than the standard containers however they share the common properties or features of the standard container like external size and ISO standard. Special containers are purpose build containers depending on their use, when the use of the standard container is not possible then the users will choose to go for the special containers. Special containers can be divided into different categories as per their use.
2.1. Open Top Container
Open top containers are the type of special container that are used to transport or store much larger cargo and which are relatively bigger to load from the end door and height exceeds the normal height of the normal container. Normally the cargos are loaded from the top with the help of crane or related equipment.
Features:
- Tarpaulin roof with removable bows or hard steel roof
- Removable header to make sure whole container width will be allowed while loading the cargo from top
- Checkered steel floor or plywood or bamboo floor depending on the end use
- Different tare weight depending on the strength and use of the container
- Different height: half height, standard height or high cube container height
- Different colors, lock box for extra security, multiple vents etc.
Different Types of Open Top Containers:
2.2. Open Side Container:
Open Side containers are categorized as special containers normally used to load and store the cargo via additional doors on the side. They come in standard in a 20 and 40 foot size so that different types of cargos can be stored as per the need. In recent times open side containers are used to equip different types of industrial equipment in power and mining industry.
These containers are fitted with timber flooring or/and checkered steel and are equipped with double doors at the front that open to 270 degrees. Loading cargo front of the container is not always practical at that time side door containers come into play.
2.3. Mini Containers
2.4. Bulk Containers
2.5. Dangerous Goods Container
2.6. Power Equipment Container
2.7. Equipment Container
2.8. Platform and Flatrack Container
2.9. Accommodation Container
3. Offshore Containers
Offshore container is a "portable unit, specially designed for repeated use in the transport of goods or equipment to, from or between fixed and/or floating offshore installations and ships" - International Maritime Organization.
Offshore containers are different than dry containers; these containers can survive longer while exposing to harsh offshore environment, both paint and structural requirement is higher, loading and unloading is basically with sling sets and the dimension of these type of container is diversified.
Offshore Containers are basically divided into three categories according to European Committee for Standardization (CEN):
1. Offshore Freight Containers: These offshore containers are built for the transport of goods including general cargo containers, cargo baskets, bulk containers, special containers, boxes and gas cylinder racks etc.
2. Offshore Service Containers: Tailor made offshore containers for a special purpose - examples include labs, workshops, power plants and control stations.
3. Offshore waste skip: Type of offshore container to hold waste, these can either be open or closed type.
4. Reefer Containers
A refrigerated container or reefer is an intermodal container (shipping container) used in intermodal freight transport that is refrigerated for the transportation of temperature-sensitive cargo.
While a reefer will have an integral refrigeration unit, they rely on external power, from electrical power points (“reefer points”) at a land-based site, a container ship or on quay.
5. Tank Containers
A tank container is built to the ISO standards, making it suitable for different modes of transportation. Both hazardous and non-hazardous products can be transported in tank containers.
CIMC Equilink offers all these types of containers that are being manufactured under the CIMC Group. With the theme of “one-stop” service, we supply different types of containers from different ports of China.
